Women in the UK are traveling more safely in taxis at night. Thanks to the Pink Ladies.
What woman hasn't worried about getting home safely after a late night out? It was that fear that prompted entrepreneurs Tina Dutton and Andrea Winders to launch Pink Ladies, the first taxi service in the world for women driven by women.
Launched in June of 2005 in the town of Warrington, this unique take on traditional taxi service puts cabbies and their customers in a safe driving environment. Every driver is trained in self-defence, first aid and customer care. Ladies who join this exclusive club are chauffeured about town in bright pink Renault Kangoos and their pink leather interiors are cleaned weekly for a spotless ride. Passengers can forget rummaging for change in their wallets to pay their fare, too. Only credit cards, debit cards or pre-paid accounts are accepted by the pink uniformed drivers. To avoid taxi queues or waiting alone on street corners, passengers can text-back to find out how soon a Pink Lady cab will collect them. And when the destination is reached, drivers follow through with the company's "through the door" policy by ensuring that every passenger is safely inside the address before driving away.
Celebrity Kerry Katona has leant her support to the cab company and feedback from customers has been superb. In 2006, the Pink Ladies won two awards including Regional Business of the Year for Innovation. They even received a surprise invitation to Buckingham Palace in recognition of services to local and national issues. The biggest perk, however, to thinking pink is that women today can finally feel assured that the taxi they've called is the one they order and not some dangerous bogus cab.
