Jackie Warner

A self-made millionaire by the age of 21... Warners secret to success: "It’s your attitude that makes you fail - or not. End of story."
INTERVIEW | "Blonde Ambition"

Jackie Warner

"Work Out" star Jackie Warner wants to can change your life with her tough love training style.

No more excuses. "Don’t let anything stand in the way of getting what you want." says fitness trainer Jackie Warner.

Known to Hollywood stars and execs as the girl who can give clients golden abs, Warner’s star burns brighter than ever thanks to her Bravo reality hit, "Work Out". From employee goof-ups at her gym to her romantic woes this show’s legs almost rival Warner’s long, killer gems. It all gives Warner’s boot-camp approach to life and building a better bod some serious kick.

A self-made millionaire by the age of 21, this Midwestern girl ditched a career as a writer at Warner Bros. to conquer the fitness biz. Warner became one of the first to offer medical treatments at Lift, her multi-discipline wellness centre in Beverly Hills. In 2002 Warner launched the Sky Sport & Spa fitness and sports medicine club. The SkyLab life-change camp for overweight clients followed, as did Warner’s signature fitness clothing line.

"It’s just the beginning for the fitness queen who wants to kick your ass and your life into the best shape ever."

MODW: "Welcome to Modwomen.com Jackie.

Jackie: "Thanks for inviting me."

MODW: "There are fitness trainers that coddle their clients and then there’s you. Why do you think people have bought in to your 'tough love' training style in such a big way?"

Jackie: "I don’t sugar coat things. Not ever. If a girl who is 5′ 2″ and round comes in wanting to look long and lanky like me she never will and I’ll tell her so. But so what? It’s about being the best that you can be: Tight, toned and strong.

MODW: "Women today are made to feel so badly about themselves if they don’t look like a supermodel. What’s the best way to fight that?"

Jackie: "Don’t accept that you’re not good enough. We’re all different. We’re all built in a multitude of shapes, sizes and frames. But you can be that size 0 and still be pretty messed up if you don’t believe in yourself."

MODW: "Have you ever felt that kind of insecurity about your looks?"

Jackie: "I’m going to be 40 next week. I’m no spring chicken. But my presence is known when I walk into a room. That’s because of my energy and my outlook on who I am. That’s the difference. That was true long before I did this reality show."

MODW: "What’s the allure for you in training people?"

Jackie: "Frankly, I’m not interested in giving another celebrity a six-pack of abs. I’m a life coach. I want to help transform people’s lives. This country is in a mass depression today – and not just economically. We’re chronically fatigues and drug-dependent. I want to help people feel better. But I also want to speak to them in ways that helps them live in the real world positively. That’s my drug. That’s what’s got me hooked."

MODW: "What is your secret to getting a better body?"

Jackie: "You get the body you want with your head. The power of thought changes your energy. Thinking positively can change your DNA. It can change your body and how you live your life."

MODW: "What’s the one fitness rule to live by for women?"

Jackie: "Lift weights. You simply can’t afford not to. As we age we lose muscle tone. That makes our bodies less efficient at burning calories. Then wham. The next thing you know you’ve got this middle age spread happening. More muscle means more calorie burn. It also keeps you strong for a long, long time."

MODW: "There are many fitness DVD’s out there that promise results in just 10 minutes. For example, Tony Horton’s new '10 Minute Trainer'. Is that really possible?"

Jackie: "You can get an effective workout in 10 minutes. Tony’s one of the better trainers out there but the problem with his program is that it’s too hard. It turns people off. My DVD program gives you results but you growth with it. I break it down into upper, lower and abdominal work. It’s an all inclusive workout and it gives people a slice of what it would like to be train with me in my studio."

MODW: "Why do you think viewers have connected with you on 'Workout' in such a huge way?"

Jackie: "There’s a lot about my real life that speaks to ordinary people. I am Middle America. I am a lesbian. I’ve had good and bad moments in my life and I’ve not been afraid to show that to the world on the show."

MODW: "Was that hard for you to do?

Jackie: "Absolutely. I’m used to it now but I don’t like being in front of the camera. I was a very private person before this show. I don’t like having such scrutiny focussed on every aspect of my life. But I pushed through that shyness. It’s made me stronger and helped me as a teacher and a life coach."

MODW: "What’s your secret to success in life?"

Jackie: "It’s your attitude that makes you fail - or not. End of story."

MODW: "Has that philosophy made your career as smooth ride?"

Jackie: "Nothing is easy in this world. I made my first million at 21. But I never let not having a lot of money stop me from getting something off the ground. I relied on passion to get me where I wanted to go. But if there is one big thing about making it it’s this: Don’t do something as a career that you don’t like. It’ll kill you."

MODW: "Has there ever been a time in your life when you compromised on what you wanted?"

Jackie: "I learned that lesson at a very young age. But you can’t be afraid. Whether it’s being stuck in a bad job, marriage, relationship or a small town you must take that chance. Don’t be afraid to choose another life. The payoff is just so great."

MODW: "What’s the greatest reward for you now that you’re a household name?"

Jackie: "I’ve always liked being my own boss. Trust me. I couldn’t do it any other way. But it’s the emails I get from thousands of people that really gets me going. They’re uplifting, shocking and sad. But they tell the stories of people who are overcoming things. They’ve found something in me to help them change their lives. The feeling that gives me has hooked me for life."
